Vedic Mathematics: A Faster Way of Life

Mathematics is an area of knowledge that includes the topics of numbers, formulae, and related structures, shapes, spaces in which they are contained, and quantities and their changes.

Basically, Mathematics can help us to unlock the mysteries of our universe as the definition of Mathematics suggests, “It is the Science that deals with the measurement, properties, relation of quantities including arithmetic, geometry, algebra, etc.” Our daily life events are more and more influenced by computers, automation, and use of artificial intelligence for which the learning of basic Mathematics provides the foundation.

Mathematics has been divided into two categories, i.e. Calculative and Formulative. In the primary level of Mathematics, the Calculative approach is dominant while beyond the primary level, the Formulative approach is required very much. As far as we are concerned with the primary level, everybody has to be sound in calculation. And if we talk about calculation, Vedic Maths is a powerful technique that can help you solve Mathematical problems in much shorter time when compared to our conventional method.

Why Do We Need to Calculate Mentally If We Have a Calculator?

The human brain is capable of working faster than the world’s fastest computer. Exercising the brain will not only help us calculate fast, but also help us in our daily lives. With the calculator, we do not participate in the calculation process at all. This is highly dangerous over time as we lose our ability to calculate in a day-to-day situation and our thinking abilities are also affected.

Importance Of Vedic Maths

Vedic Mathematics originated from the Indian system and is based upon 16 sutras and 13 sub-sutras to solve any type of difficult problems. It is not just a set of tricks to help us solve problems in our heads, but a way of thinking and seeing that can be applied to many areas including science, technology, and everyday life.

It has several advanced features like:

  • Faster and quicker calculations
  • Enhanced efficiency
  • Improved confidence level and reduced Maths phobia
  • Reduces memorising concepts
  • Develops logical reasoning skills
  • Increased concentration and retention
  • Reduces finger counting
  • Transforms dry, tedious Maths into a fun subject

Types Of Vedic Maths

It is divided into two categories:

  • Traditional Approach
  • Modern Approach

The traditional approach requires a lot of practice while solving problems, but it provides better insight into the problem while the modern approach is much simpler and provides speedy calculation, but it lacks depth of understanding.
